A skateboard is tested on a dynamometer in which the power delivered to the system is measured at three different but fixed wheel speeds and at different resistance torque settings for each wheel speed. What is the dependent variable? What are the independent variables?
The three extraneous variables that might affect the temperature reading are-
1. Sufficient time must be given to the instrument to adjust, as bulb thermometers are respond slowly to temperature changes.
2. The temperature of other solid objects with which the thermometer is in contact.
3. The radiation exchange of the temperatures with other surrounding bodies is also an identified factor.
The dependent variable in this case is the resistance torque, which is measured with respect to the different given parameters.
The independent variables in this case are the wheel speeds, the diameter of the wheel, and the constants of the material that it is made up of.
