After reading the executive summary of the 2011 report “Kiskisik Awasisik: Remember the Children”, briefly explain why there is an over-representation of indigenous children in the child welfare system.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Overrepresentation of indigenous children results in the discrimination of children. Child welfare system had reached the crisis level in overrepresenting of children only for growing their publicity. It overrepresented the children who are under out-of-home care to get increased funding. Organizational cultures, policies, and decisions also enumerate the child welfare system to overrepresent the indigenous children. The neglect of these children by the families and societies leads to loss of their social identities and cultures. The child welfare system also failed to research the factors beyond the indigenous children. Child welfare misuse the authority to overrepresent racism among children. The members of child welfare association have a lack of knowledge on cultures and associated factors that make them overrepresent the children. To eliminate this over-representation, the government has to develop strategies in the distinguishing and representing the indigenous children.
