A)

Storage devices slow issues are caused by a large number of junk files or useless big files that take most space on the drive. If corrupted system files or bad sectors exist on the storage devices, it may also slow down the device transfer rate.

1)Remove and clear useless large files and junk files on the slow external hard drive
2)Repair bad sectors and corrupted system files that slow down the external hard drive

If your external hard disk drive’s performance has decreased, several steps can be performed to either diagnose the problem or repair it.

a)Defragment your disk drive.
b)Run a check disk scan.
c)Look for damage to the case or the drive itself.
d)Check the cables, replace if necessary.
e)Too much disk activity.
f)Check your drive and PC for viruses and malware.
g)Disable Windows indexing for faster performance.

B)

A simple solution to prevent slowdowns caused by the hard drive is to install a solid state hard drive (SSD) in your current computer.Solid state hard drives take advantage of flash memory, which is found primarily in tablets and smartphones. SSD's flash memory doesn't have an arm like the above hard drive to write data, instead it relies on a processor making it much more reliable.
