explain one controversy associated with the diagnosis of women with borderline personality disorder and one controversy associated with the diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder in men.
Above all the mental illnesses personality disorders are least talked about. Most people thinks that a person suffering from personality disorder is crazy or dangerous. Borderline personality disorder is also a kind of a serious mental disorder which shows a pattern of ongoing instability in moods, behavior, self-image & normal functioning. These experiences result in impulsive behavior, unstable relationships, anger, depression & anxiety. Borderline personality disorder is a personality disorder where the patient usually lose their self control and creates frustation. It is thought to be triggered by the dramatic event happened during the early childhood, though there is no direct correlation. Researchers believe that the patient suffering from borderline personality disorder due to the possible dramatic event experience different structural changes in the part of the brain that controls emotions & impulses. This mental disorder commonly associated with women. According to researchers due to genetic or harmonal reasons & other issues like sexual abuse, traumatic srtess disorder the occurance of BPD is more common in women however men are also affected with this mental illness. Early abuse tends to create a sense of victimization in women that can make it difficult for them to trust men. Borderline personality disorder happens more often in women because they are more dependent on others which can be more sensitive to rejection. Antisocial personality disorder is a mental condition in which a person continuously shows impulsive behavior & ignores the feelings of others. They treat others harshly & show no guilt for their behavior. Individuals with antisocial personality disorder often violate the law, becoming criminals. They may lie, behave violently or impulsively, and have problems with drug and alcohol use. Adults with antisocial personality disorder typically show symptoms of conduct disorder before the age of fifteen. They break the law repeatedly & often commit serious crimes due to which often leads to prison sentences. It is estimated that 60-70% of people in prison have anti social personality disorder. However, they can be treated through cognative behavioural therapy.
