What is a Local Area Network (LAN)? What are the components of a typical LAN? What are the functions of each component?
LAN stands for Local Area Networks.
It is defined as the computer networks where the computers are connected with each other through a wired or wireless medium within a limited area such as school, residence, house, factory etc.
Components of a typical LAN and its functions:
Network Cables: These are the cables which carry information between computers in a wired network LAN.
Network Hubs: It is centralized devices for data transmission to the connected computers. First computer sends data to the central hub, then that data is forwarded to all connected computers by the hub.
Network Switches: Switch is used to assign a MAC address to each computer in a local network. Switch is used to connect different computers within a single network.
Routers: Router is used to connects two different networks rather than connecting computers in a single network.
