18. A high rate of increase in LH promotes which two of the following: a. development of the primary follicle b. shedding of the endometrium c. initial growth of the endometrium d. ovulation e. development of the corpus luteum
19-25. Match the following with the time intervals in the uterine cycle: (a) days 1-5, (b) days 6-14, (c) days 14-16, (d) days 15-23
19. ____ shedding of the endometrial lining of the uterus
20. ____ development of the corpus luteum
21. ____ minimum amount of estrogen in the blood
22. ____ ovulation
23. ____ significant progesterone secretion
24. ____ proliferative phase of the endometrium
25. ____ secretory phase of the endometrium
1)CORRECT ANSWER IS OPTION D - OVULATION
A high rate of increase in LH hormone (LH SURGE) will cause ovulation.
When the fllicle get matured by the action of Follicular stimulating horme (FSH) it secrete estrogen hormone , this estrogen hormone will increases the secretion of the LH hormone from the anterior pituitary gland. This produce a huge raise in the LH hormone which act on the Mature(graffian ) follicle and causes Ovulation.
By the process of Ovulation the mature follicle releases the ovum. This Ovum are viable for about 24 hour , with in this time when the sperm fertilise it , itwill form the zygote .
if fertilisation doesnt occur the corpus luteum (reminant of the matured follicle) will disintegrate beacuse of that the level of progesterone hormone fall and the endometrium also slough off.
Decreased level of estrogen and progesterone will activate the hypothalamus for producing the gonadotrophin releasing hormone to activate the pituitary to secrete LH and FSH and the ovulatry cycle continue.
19) shedding of the endometrial lining of the uterus - Option A- day 1- 5
Eendometrium shed when the ovum is not fertilised with the sperm. it usually occurs at the end of the menstrual cycle and extend into the menstrual phase of menstruation.
Menstrual flow is in Day 1- 6.
20) development of the corpus luteum -Option D- days 15-23
Corpus luteum is formed from the reminance of the matured follucle after the process of ovulation.
This phase of the ovulatory cycle is called Luteal phase occurs in day 15-23
21) minimum amount of estrogen in the blood - option A - day 1- 5
Minimum amount estrogen is seen in the menstrual phase of the menstruation that is in starting period Day 1- 6.
After that the estrogen will increases in the follucular phase and it it will decrease in teh ovulation phase and it will further increase in the luteal phase
22) ovulation - Option C - Day 14- 16
Ovulation in the ovulatory cycle usually occurs at the middle of the cycle that is Day 14 - 16
matured follicle will release ovum and the reminance of the matured follicle develop into corpus luteum
23) significant progesterone secretion -Option D- days 15-23
progetserone is secreted by the corpus luteum , corpus luteum is formed in the luteal phase day 15-23
24)proliferative phase of the endometrium- Option B - Day 6-14
proliferation of the endometrium occur in the proliferative phase that day 6 to 14 . in which the endometrium is proliferated and thickened by the action of estrogen
25.secretory phase of the endometrium- Option D- days 15-23
secretory phase is seen i day 15 - 23 in which the corpus luteum secrete large amount of progesterone
