Today, the world has become united in a manner that was never seen before. Unlike the earlier days, today the internet and cyber technologies have created such a place that people are connected in every manner. As good as the internet is, it has created negative aspects in the form of cyber stalking. This is the process in which people use the internet to harass individuals or group of individuals or stalk them. The most common form is defamation, followed by se-xual solicitation or threatening an individual or the most major form identity theft.
People tend to stalk others offline or in real-time, they tend to do that such that they could slander the victim or intimidate the victim. In order to stop such acts, a person may go for a restraining order or probation.
The stalkers act as predators, with the thought of intimidation of the victim. They have an obsessive behavior in response to the victim. This may be in the form of mails, letters, obscene messages, calls etc. after the offender obtains the stage of harassment, they tend to move to a more dangerous state. These people are generally delusional, paychopathic, sociopathic or predatory. These people are unable to understand the fear that they have been causing in the victim. They become hostile with anger and rage often as a result of being rejected or in being incompetent. Some of them seek for intimacy or some fantasises about them,
Thee are different categories of these people. They may be in the form of internet trolls or harassers or cyber terrorists or consumers of online child por-nography. With the liberty that internet has given, it is easier to bridge the gap between the celebrities and the “non stars” and shaming of these actors has become an important part of this category.
This is ethically wrong. The utilitarian ethics says that most number of people should be benefitted, but when such crimes are committed, it is the entire humanity that is ashamed. Deontology says one should stick by their duties and not think about the consequences, but bullying or invading in the life of a person is not a part of any person’s duty.
