A. Choose the word that makes this sentence correct: The higher/lower the narrow-sense heritability of a trait, the faster you would expect that trait to respond to selection.
B. Explain your answer from part A. Identify the equation you could use to predict the response of a trait to selection (1 pt.). Describe mathematically how changing the narrow-sense heritability would lead to the outcome you identified in part A
Ans- Heritability is a concept that describes, how much of total phenotypic variation in a population is due to variation in genetic factors.
BROAD-SENSE HERITABILITY reflect all possible phenotypic variance due to the genotype. Phenotypic variance is due to the sum of three components: environmental variance, genotypic variance and variance resulting from the interaction of environment and genotype
The value of Heritability always lies between 0 and 1. Value 1 indicates that the environmental condition have had little impact on phenotypic variance and value close to 0 indicates that the environment has been almost solely responsible for the observed phenotypic variation.
NARROW -SENSE-HERITABILITY includes only that proportion of genetic variation that is due to additive genotypic variance alone.
