What communities (including police) can do to prevent and control gangs
Communities are constantly at a
threat from different gangs that threaten the safety and security
of the neighbourhood where they stay. One of the important reason
for them becoming a gangster is their poverty. They join a gang
just for their financial security. So, if they are provided some
training and given a job, they might change their ways. Secondly,
some gangster join gangs to retaliate someone who wronged them.
These people could be counselled. There are yet others who just
didn’t have any education thus roaming around the streets thus
ending up in a gang. If government organizations and NGOs help them
get proper education, they would change their ways.
Police should also help the gangsters by treating them in a
humanitarian way and by arranging for counseling sessions. They
could also use them as friends of police thus keeping them as the
guardians of places where they live. Police should avoid branding
them as live long criminals.
