The parts of neurons are as:
- Cell body or Soma - The main body
part of a neuron that has nucleus and other important organelles
necessary for functioning is called the cell body or soma. It is
not directly involved in the tramsmission of nerve signals. The main
function of cell nucleus is to produce RNA that directs the
synthesis of protein. The other important function of cell body is
to provide the energy to all organelles of the cell so that they
are able to carry out respective functions properly.
- Dendrites- Dendrites are protusions
in a neuron that has branched structures. These innumerable short
branched structures recieve the neural signal from other neurons in
their synapses and transmit it to the cell body.
- Axon- Axons are elongated protusion
to the terminal ends in the neuron cell with very few bracnches.
The neural signal from the cell body reaches axons and they
transmit it to the synapses of other neuron cells dendrites.. Thus,
a neural signal passes from one neuron to the other.
