Which of the following is/are possible blood types of the children of an AB+ mother and O+ father? The father is homozygous for both blood factors.
Answer-
According to the given question-
Here mother have AB+ blood group while father have O+ Blood group. and the father are homozygous for both blood factors.we know that there are the human blood type is based on co-dominant alleles and we have 3 different types of alleles such as IA, IB, and IO . or we can also write it as A for IA, B for IB), and O for IO
we get one blood allele from mother while other from father. so the pair of allele present in DNA are known as genotype. we have three alleles so we have six possible genotype such as AA, AO, BB, BO, AB, and OO.
we get Rh factor from our parents and we have two different alleles such as Rh+ and Rh-.
If any person is Rh+ which means he has either one Rh+ allele, or have both such as either Rh+/ Rh+ or Rh+/Rh-. while those are Rh- has Rh- / Rh- genotype . Father which is Rh+ he could transfer to his offspring either Rh+ or Rh- allele.
so considering above information and about the question-
Father = O+ and homozygous so alleles are IOIO for rh factor he also be as Rh+/ Rh+
Mother = AB + so she have IA IB allele and for rh factor she may be either Rh+/ Rh+ or Rh+/ Rh-
IA | IB | |
IO | IA IO | IBIO |
IO | IA IO | IBIO |
So there are we can observed that the offspring are 50 % with blood group A i.e. AO genotype or IA IO and 50 % with blood group B i.e. BO genotype or IB IO .
First considering father Rh+/ Rh+ and mother Rh+/ Rh+
Then we get
Rh+ | Rh+ | |
Rh+ | Rh+/ Rh+ | Rh+/ Rh+ |
Rh+ | Rh+/ Rh+ | Rh+/ Rh+ |
which means that all offspring are Rh+
considering father Rh+/ Rh+ and mother Rh+/ Rh-
Rh+ | Rh- | |
Rh+ | Rh+Rh+ | Rh+Rh- |
Rh+ | Rh+Rh+ | Rh+Rh- |
which means that all offspring are here also are Rh+
So we have So there are we can observed that the offspring are 50 % with blood group A i.e. AO genotype or IA IO and 50 % with blood group B i.e. BO genotype or IB IO . with Rh+ offspring.
