1. Explain the difference between a “global approach” to pay/benefit satisfaction and a “facet based approach”.
2. Identify the facets used by Heneman and Schwab to explain pay satisfaction.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1- In global approach of job satisfaction the employee is satisfied with the overall job. Here the overall package of the job is satisfactory for the employee and enjoy the job. In facet based approach the employee is satisfied with only particular component of the job.It may be work atmosphere, pay, work profile etc. In this approach it is complex to measure the satisfaction level of the employee because employees might like some aspects better than others.

2-Heneman and Schwab identified pay level, pay raises, benefits, structure, and administration to explain pay satisfaction. Pay level is the amount received by the employee as payment, pay rises is increment to employee in different time horizon, benefits are other monetary and non-monetary benefit provided by the company, how pay structure is developed by the company and finbally how pay is administered by the company like timely payment etc.
