I chose learning outcome number one:Define the role and ethical responsibilities of health services administrators and managers.i think this is, in fact, the most important duty of a healthcare administrator to fully understand as it can truly make or break your entire facility and staff. It is both the manager(s) as well as the administrator(s) primary duty to maintain an ethical and moral culture throughout the organization. According to the American College of Healthcare Executives examples of the responsibilities of a manager include " Conduct professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness and good faith in a manner that will reflect well upon the profession ", "Comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to healthcare management in the jurisdictions in which the healthcare executive is located or conducts professional activities;" as well as "Maintain competence and proficiency in healthcare management by implementing a personal program of assessment and continuing professional education" Following this guide of responsibilities as well as promoting positivity and structure throughout the work environment is the key to a successful business as well as a satisfied staff. Overall, these duties will increase business and decrease turnover rates in staff.

I think Ethics do play a very significant role in the health care today. In terms of social responsibility, for example, maintaining the quality of Health care service is extremely important such that the Society can avail the best that a Healthcare sector is otherwise bound to serve them with. Further, from the side of ethics in Healthcare, it shall be essential to follow the same in order to comprehend as to how ethics can guide the Healthcare performance and what are the relevant challenges that the Healthcare has to face with when it comes to dealing with marketing ethics.

Following are some ethical issues dealing with Social Responsibility in terms of quality in HealthCare:

  • The Healthcare providers and the other medical staff’s behavior are often influenced by the Freebies distributed by the medical representatives of various leading pharmaceutical companies and thereby compromising with the Marketing ethics as well.
  • The Health care often professionals often offer special care services to the VIP persons such as families of Financial donors or trustees, etc, at times, at the cost of neglecting the other general patients whereas in the eyes of a Doctor, all the patients should be treated equally, thereby compromising with the Social responsibility.
  • The health privacy information data is often compromised by the medical staff in lieu of some unethical rewards.
  • Insufficient care given to the patients who are meeting the ends of their lives.

However the Health information manager may encourage ethical conduct in the policies and services of health care in the following ways:

  • The healthcare professionals undertaking any task should be clearly defined what is expected out of him in his duty to serve the patients and to the community at large. This would help to make them accountable in case of any deviation from the set targets and expectations.
  • Both the ethical and legal consequences of such liability should be explained well to such medical providers. Awareness help them be more cautious towards their activities. Deliberate liability would be taken actions upon thus more sternly.
  • Often there are cases where liability on one particular team or on one health care practitioner could not be ascertained. In such a case, more care should be taken in giving the accused the chance to prove their stance.

Thus by understanding both, the legal and ethical side of the consequences, it could be inferred that both ethics and law are designed to serve the patients and the other stakeholders of the Healthcare sector in the best possible way by taking care of their well-being and performance. However, they only differ in the way that ethics are more of a guiding principles and not binding on the part of the Health Information Manager to follow but only depends upon his personal discretion while the legal aspects make it mandatory for the manager to follow failing which the necessary parties shall be attracting penalties and punishments. Therefore, in order to successfully manage a healthcare organization, it shall be essential for the HealthInformation manager to understand both the concepts and its consequences in detail.
