Discuss challenges to the traditional treatment model of detoxification, acute care, residential pro- grams, outpatient services, and transitional living environments.
Detoxification refers to the medical management of the symptoms caused by withdrawal.Medically supervised detoxification is indicated for any adolescent who is at risk for the withdrawal of alcohol or any drugs like benzodiazepines.It is also helpful for the adolescents who are withdrawing from cocaine, heroine etc.
Acute care refers to the care that is given to the each person who is going through the process of detoxification. Children and adolescents are seen individually by a psychiatrist daily and are involved in group sessions throughout the day, designed to help them through their crisis and equip them with coping skills to enhance and enrich their lives.
Residential programs are likely to structured in an environment where the severe patients of drug abuse live. Thus it aims to stimulate real living environments with added structure and routine to prepare individuals with the framework necessary for their lives to continue drug and alcohol free upon completion of program.
Outpatient services, for individuals with other substance use disorder, is appropriate when clinical conditions or environmental and social circumstances do not require a more intensive level of care.
Transitional Living environments are the environments where individuals live alone and thus programes are done for the detoxification on that setting.
