There will be one question on each of the four emerging market groupings (i.e., BRICS, CIVETS, ASEAN, and MENA). Students should be prepared to identify the member countries and subgroups (where applicable) of each group, explain the common characteristics and any unique characteristics of individual countries of each group, identify the goals of the formal organizations (where applicable), and discuss how the textbook authors viewed the importance of the group in the global geopolitical arena and within the realm of emerging market economies.

BRICS

BRICS is an association of five emerging countries which are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. . There were two major reason the BRIC was formed .

1) To provide self reliance , self dependent without any foreign agency for developmental activities

2) Be an alternative to world bank and IMF to challenge the USA

Objectives

1) Fulfill the regional development

2) Acts a bridge between developed and developing countries

3) Gaining the advantage in trade and climate changes

4) Information sharing, exchange platform and involve educational., cultural and enviornmental engagement

Major focus area of the BRICS are as follows

Science & Technology, Provert eradication, Trade, Health, education, Investment, Infrastructure and Governance & Leadership etc.

ASEAN

ASEAN is commonly called as Association of Southeast Asian Nations It is an intergovernmental organization which main objectives is Promoting or improving economic growth and regional stability among all the countries which are in the group.

Ten countries are the members of the ASEAN group which are Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.

MENA

MENA is an acronym of The Middle East and North Africa. Main Objectives of the MENA group is Job Creation, Fighting Corruption and Improve the law, Increase the entrepreneurship.

There are many countries in the group of MENA which are as follows

Algeria, Baharain, Dijibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Isarel, jordan, Malta, Lebanon, Kuwait, Libya, Morroco, Oman, Qatar, Soudi Arbia, Tunisia, Syria, UAE, Yemen, Gaza Strip, Palestaine etc.

CIVETS

CIVETS is an acronym of the countries i.e  Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt , Turkey and South Africa. Main objectives of the group are same as BRIC group which are Break the barriers of unemployment, corruption, inequality
