what is the independent variable. what is the dependent variable, and what hypothesis test is it.

what is the independent variable. what is the dependent variable, and what hypothesis test is it.

Imagine that you are interested to see if there is a relationship between gender, people's religion and what they consider the ideal family size to be. You would likely do this by recruiting individuals from different religious groups and asking them to report what they consider the ideal amount of children in a family. Let us further say that you ended up recruiting (via random selection) 5 male Catholics, 5 female Catholics, 5 male Protestants, 5 female Protestants, 5 male Jewish, and 5 female Jewish individuals.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Hypothesis testing

Here we want to test the relationship between gender, religion and considered family size.

That is we want to see the effect of gender and religion on family size.

Thus gender and religion are the independent variables and family size is the dependent variable.

Now we have two nominal independent variables and a continuous dependent variable. Thus the hypothesis testing is a two- way ANOVA.
