Can you discuss born self-energy, coulomb energy, and solvation energy and how it relates to proteins?
The self energy or Born energy of an ion is the energy associated with the field of the ion itself.
In electrostatics, the energy required to assemble the charge distribution takes the form of self-energy by bringing in the constituent charges from infinity, where the electric force goes to zero.
Coloumbs energy is the energy associated with electrostatic forces of a system of particles.
Solvation energy is the amount of energy released when one mole of ion undergoes solvation. (protein is polar)
We can use all this in case of protein, because protein can have positive or negative charge or neutral (because of aminoacid) and can show properties similer to charged particles.
