You have 6 element symbols given to you on a test. C, O, H, B, S and F. You must make a chemical compound out of them. You must use all the elements and not repeat any. How many possible compounds are there?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution:
Given in the question
We need to a 6 element symbol, symbols are C,O,H,B,S and F
We need to use all without repetition
So number of possible ways compounds are there can be calculated as
No. of ways, First symbol out of 6 can be choose = 6C1 = 6
No. of ways, second symbol out of 5 can be choose without repetition = 5
No. of ways, third symbol out of 5 can be choose without repetition = 4
No. of ways, fourth symbol out of 3 can be choose without repetition = 4
No. of ways, fifth symbol out of 2 can be choose without repetition = 2
No. of ways, sixth symbol out of 1 can be choose without repetition = 1
So total number of possible comounds = 6 * 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1 = 720
So there are total720 ways to make possible compounds are there.

An organic compound containing C, H, O, and S is subjected to two analytical procedures. In the first procedure a 9.33 mg sample is burned which gives 19.50 mg of C02 and 3.99 mg of H20. In the second procedure, a separate 11.05 mg sample is fused (melted) with Na202 and the resulting sulfate is precipitated as BaS04, which (when washed and dried) weighs 20.4 mg. (Appropriate amounts of Na202 and a compound containing barium ion are added.) The amount...
