What is the main difference between polygene inheritance and heritability?
The main difference between Polygene inheritance and heritablity is
The Polygene inheritance can be defined with the help of an example . For example:In humans we do not just have tall or short people but we have a whole range possible heights. Such traits are generally controlled by 2 or more genes and thus called as polygenic traits. The inheritance of polygenic traits is called polygenic or quantitative inheritance.
In quantitative inheritance, the dominant alleles have cumulative effects, with each dominant allele expressing a part of functional polypeptide and full trait is shown when all the dominant alleles are present . Genes involved in polygenic inheritance are called polygenes.
On the other hand heritablity is
Heritablity can be defined as the ratio of the genetic variance to the total phenotypic variation. It is caused by genetic variation not by environmental factors. There are 2 types of heritablity and that are:
Broad sense heritablity
Narrow sense heritablity
Heritablity =Vg/Vp
Vg is genotypic variance
Vp is phenotypic variance
