4Al (s) +3 O2 (g) --- > 2Al2O3

When Al comes in contact with O2 it forms Al2O3. All surface of Al is not covered by Al2O3 quickly and this layer is very dense. Further diffusion of O2 is not possible due to this layer on surface of aluminum. This slows down oxidation of Al and so the correct answer for this question is :
