How does valence bond theory account for the magnetic behavior of complexes? Use appropriate examples and explain the formation of inner-orbital and outer-orbital octahedral complexes.
Valency bond theory
in VBT theory orbitals of two atoms overlap to form hybridised orbitals
inner orbital complex also called are paired complex or low spin complex, complex use inner d-orbital in hybridisation
in inner orbital complex [Co(NH3)6]3+ there is no unpaired electron therefore compound is diamagnetic
in outer orbital complex [CoF6]3+there is there is four unpaired electron therefore compound is paramagnetic with 5.7 BM magnetic moment
