There are many different types of pressures that may change our behaviors and attitudes. Discuss these types of pressures with examples to each type.
Social pressures that change our behaviors and attitudes are known as social influence.
Social Influence refers to the way an individual's behavior gets influenced by the actual or the implied presence of others.
Conformity is a type of social influence in which an individual changes his/her behavior to behave more like the group norm. For example, you go to a party that you didn't want to go because all your friends are going to the party.
Obedience is a type of social influence in which an individual changes his/her behavior in response to orders from an authority. For example, a child obeying his/her mother's commands when she asks him/her to study.
Compliance is a type of social influence in which an individual changes his/her behavior in response to a polite request from someone. For example, signing a petition for saving the environment in response to a polite request from the volunteer.
Symbolic social influence is a type of social influence that occurs due to the imagined or implied presence of others. Example: Practicing a speech by imagining an audience changes the person's behavior.
