What is the difference(s) between a chronological or functional resume? Which one did you choose and why? What is the key component/s to an effective resume?
There are many differences between the chronological or functional resume. The chronological resume organizes the facts on the basis of work history and organize it in chronological order, whereas the functional resume focuses upon the abilities, competencies and roles played by the candidates. Besides, the functional resumes tells what the candidate is doing in present profile, but functional resume reflects what a candidate can do in the potential given job. Further, the chronological resume gives job summary in the beginning of the resume, but functional resume gives job summary in the end of the resume.
I went to choose the Chronological resume and I did it on the basis of following reasons:
1. It starts with the job summary that already elaborates the competencies, roles and abilities of the person.
2. It shows what the candidate is doing right now, including the functions performed and results achieved. It gives better insights into the skills and performance delivered by the candidate. It is highly desired by the employers.
3. Each job done as per the chronological order, will give a brief outline of the functions performed. So, it has included the benefits of the functional resume also.
Key components of an effective resume are as follows.
1. Job Summary that explains the work done, competencies hold and the roles played by the candidate.
2. Work experience, done by the candidates covering roles, achievements done and goals achieved by the candidates.
3. Specific individual skills such as technical, behavioral and soft skills to motivate the employees and colleagues.
4. Add references to the resume
