Choose a therapeutic device and write a report stating the following:
1. Definition
2. Physical principles of operation and functions
(how the device behaves at different conditions of the patient)
3. Examples
4. References
Therapeutic device used is intermittent pneumatic compression device
1) Definition - intermittent pneumatic compression device is a device used to avoid the occurance amd for management of deep vein thrombosis mainly in immobilisation .
2) principle
The main idea behind a pneumatic compression device is that it is a device with specific air pump inside the inflatable garment that can be worn. It can be worn in both upper and lower extremities. It is usually used in the lower extremity. In patients at risk of deep vein thrombosis wear this device which inflate and deflate intermittently as it's name suggests. This cause the compression if the blood vessel of the lower extremity as well as the calf muscle activity increment. This results in the improvement in the preload of the Heart due to increased venous return from the lower extremity. This will reduce the polling of the blood in the lower extremity and cause the reduction of DVT . It acts like a cycle of compression and also is used in reliving edema and varicose veins occurance
3) example are lymphasist pneumatic compression device
