What are the assumptions of ANOVA and describe what they mean?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The assumptions of ANOVA are described as under:

  1. The experimental errors of the data are normally distributed. This implies that if one were to repeat the study various number of times, and calculate the mean, the means would be normally distributed.
  2. Equal variances between treatments. The different treatment conditions in the study should have more or less equal variances.
  3. Independence of samples. This refers to the assumption that the samples are randomised or come from a random sample design.
