Expert Solution

Manufacturer of hybrid cars should take the initiatives as follows:

1. They should highlight the fuel efficiency and ability to use both gasoline and electric power to run their car models. It is going to save customers huge amount on an yearly basis and it is going to offset the any additional cost, consumers are going to pay today to buy a new hybrid car.

2. They should be ready with the complete chart that driving number of miles (say 3000 per year) will save their particular amount of money over and above traditional model of cars.

3. The flexibility aspect should be highlighted as in the case of non-availability of charging, gasoline can be used to drive the car.

4. Manufacturers should tie-up with different financial institutions for financing such cars at attractive rates or schemes. It should be hassle free. It will attract the customers who are going to buy a car.

Above initiatives should help hybrid car manufacturers to attract the customers.

A 10% electric car manufacturers should focus upon ease of operation, less maintenance, zero pollution, and ease of charging the car for distant locations, to attract the hybrid car buyers. They can argue that hybrid car can run on electric power as well, but it has complex design and needs maintenance. But, these problems are not there with the absolute electric car models. In few years time, their investment will be recovered while contributing in environment conservation and sustainability. It sensitizes the buyers and they can buy the electric car.

Some manufacturers claim that non-hybrid sedan cars have a lower mean miles-per-gallon (mpg) than hybrid ones. Suppose that consumers test 21 hybrid sedans and get a mean of 32 mpg with a standard deviation of 7 mpg. Thirty-one non-hybrid sedans get a mean of 21 mpg with a standard deviation of four mpg. Suppose that the population standard deviations are known to be six and three, respectively. Conduct a hypothesis test at the 5% level to evaluate the manufacturers claim....
