Organizations can be divided into stategic, management and operational levels and into four major functional areas:

*Sales and marketing

* Manufaturing and production

* Finance and accounting

* Human Resources

Information systems serve each of these levels and functions. The specific types of information systems that correspond to each organizational level. The organization has

ESS - Executive support systems - Strategic level

MIS - Management information systems - Management level

DSS - Decision-support systems - Management level

TPS - Transaction processing systems - Operational level.
