How can the evidence of both assimilation and the signs of ethnic identity, that support a pluralistic view of society be possible ?
Assimilation can be defined as the process where the groups that were initially distinct, would merge together and begin to share a culture that would be more common. If the society would undergo the process of assimilation, there would be a reduction in the differences among groups. Pluralism is the process where different groups would be maintaining their identity differences. Here, the different groups would continue to maintain their differences and remain separate with a persistence of social differences over a long period of time.
Ethnic identity is when a person identifies himself as a part of an ethnic group.
Assimilation and ethnic identity. Lead to pluralism since a person who may hail from a particular identity might want to accept the newer version of culture, which includes elements from different cultures as well and this further leads to separation of society and forming a new culture.
