Assignment #1
Question 1 : Nala, an old college friend of yours, has worked in a junior position in the financial advisory department of Kaufman Advisory Services (KAS) for three years. Nala tells you that she is very unhappy in her position. Her boss, Joe, is highly critical of his staff. She tells you that the financial advisory department embodies the old saying, “Praise flows up the organization, while blame flows down.” For example, Nala identified significant errors in financial reports Joe provided to three important clients. Joe responded by taking credit for identifying the errors and blaming Nala for them. As a result, Nala has been looking for a better job elsewhere. One of KAS’s competitors, Central Planning Services (CPS), is interested in hiring her, and she has an interview with the company’s hiring committee. CPS is well known for its fair treatment of its employees and clients. However, while Nala really wants the position at CPS, she is concerned about confidentiality and loyalty to her current employer. She says, “I want to be fair to both my current employer and myself.” She asks you for advice on what she may or may not say at the job interview. Required: Use the ACAF Method to analyze this situation. Specifically:
a. Assess the situation.
b. Identify the issues.
c. Analyze the issues. d. Write a letter to Nala with your conclusions.
a. Assess the situation- The situation here is in the financial advisory company KAS is that they praise the employees based on the revenue generated by them to the company rather than any other works. As it is a kind of Sales profile where the growth of the company in terms of monetary value is important. The employee performance in terms of growth or development is considered here. The employer takes the credit of all error free work. Due to this the employee Nala is searching new job.
b. The issues are as-
1. Unfair treatment with Nala.
2. Employer blames Nala although she finds out errors.
3. She was at the junior position.
4. She needs the fair treatment by employer to employees and clients.
5. She want to be loyal with current employer too.
6. She wants to know what the facts are to be disclosed to the new employer during interview.
c. The analysis of the issues is done in the following way:
Nala was at the junior position in the company so all the fault was coming to her only. She was less experienced as per the employer. So, the employer blames the Nala for the decline growth. If he does take blame on him he may be fired from the company higher officials. It is a kind of survival theory inside the organization. So, the unfair treatment was done with employees. Because of this she was unhappy with the employer. But the Nala in person is very loyal employee so she does not want to disclose other company details to new employer. She secures the information of other company whether it is good or bad to Nala. She needs better job where the company treats their employees fairly. She is very loyal person so she need not to disclose the reason for which she left the job as it impacts both negative and positive effect on the Nala.
d. Letter:

Dear Nala,
I am doing fine here and hope you also will be performing wonders in your job.
I have received your concern about your job interview I had analyzed the facts related to your current job.
I found out that the you need not to disclose the any things which shows the negative part of the previous company. This is so because new employer might feel that for the job you are doing so. As you are the junior employee they might trust less on your facts so you should be very particular while giving answers to the questions. You can share your experiences with the Advisory firm, workings, how you are different from other employees, what you like with the advisory firm in general. The expectation of yours from the employer after hiring’s would help to impact the employer in the positive way.
I feel that you are the perfect in handling the situation by your way. All the best for interview.
Bye
