There are 3 important hormones produced by kidney
1. Renin
- It is released from JG cells in response to decrease in
GFR
- It activates Renin angiotensin aldosterone system.
2. Erythropoietin
- It is released in response to decrease in Oxygen saturation of
blood.
- It leads to maturation of erythroblast precursor cells and
increases production of erythrocytes (red blood cells)
3. Calcitriol
- It is active form of vitamin D and it is considered as
hormone.
- Vitamin D is first activated in liver where it is hydroxylated
at 25' to form 25' hydroxyvutamin D then in kidney at 1' position
to form 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 (or Calcitriol) which is active
form.
- Calcitriol then act and increase Blood calcium level by
increasing its absorption from GIT.
