What is the Bronsted-Lowry base for CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2COOH and the reaction equation?
As per the Bronsted-Lowry concept, when acid reacts with base acid gives its conjugate base and base gives its conjugate acid, by exchange of a proton.
Thus,
CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-COOH CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-COO- + H+
In this example
CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-COO-
ion is conjugate base and H+
(H3O+) is conjugate acid.
