2.) Give an advantage of sexual reproduction over asexual reproduction.
3.) Give an advantage of asexual reproduction over sexual reproduction.
4.) Why is regeneration needed for animals undergoing asexual reproduction through fragmentation?
5.) How can invasive species out compete native species and become a threat through their mode of reproduction?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1) DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEXUAL AND ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION.

Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of male and female gametes wheras asexual reproduction doesnot require male and female individuals and no fusion of gametes takes place. Produces offspring genetically identical to the one parent.

2) ADVANTAGE OF SEXUAL OVER ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION.

Species produced by sexual reproduction survive more than asexual reproduction. Genetic variations help them to adapt to different environment. Variations arr more successful in sexual reproduction. Diversity is also seen.

3) ADVANTAGE OF ASEXUAL OVER SEXUAL REPRODUCTION.

Colonization of new habitats may be easier when an individual doesnot need female or male to reproduce. Rapid rate reproduction and in large number of offspring is formed if the condition is favourable.

4) REGENERATION it happens when an organism regrows certain parts or limbs which is lost due to predation. If the splitting occurs without the prior preparation of the organism , both fragments must be able to regenerate the complete organism for it to function as reproduction.

5)INVASIVE SPECIES AND NATIVE SPECIES.

Invasive species thrive because they outcompete native species for food. They drstroy their habitat. They disrupt the ecosystem function. This can adversaly affect the native species and prevent the growth..
