System documentation is the collection of documents that describes the requirements, capabilties, limitations,design, operation & maintenance of a system such as communciations, computing or information processing system.

Purpose of System Documentation / How does it add value to an organization/ Reasons for Organizations to Invest in System Documentation:-

1.It provides the necessary information to develop training programme for operators and users.

2.It creates a vehicle of information to provide evidence of progress in the development process and to monitor the process.

3.Makes conversion of system from one machine to another easier.

4.Makes system modification and implementation easier.

5.Narrow down the communication gaps among users, designers and management.

6.Provide means to determine in advance what will occur and when.

System documentation is generally done on 3 levels i.e. User Level, Management level & Documentation at Data Processing Dept.

System documentation thus plays an important role in increasing organization's efficiency.
