Compare and contrast hypothetical lipid composition in cells of the following organisms:

•Antarctic fish

•Human being

•Thermophilicbacterium in 100C hot springs

•Tropical plant

•Consider cholesterol content, degree of fatty acid saturation, and length of acyl chains

Solutions

Expert Solution

In hot animal, fluidity of membrane will be less and in cold animals, the fluidity will be more .

As unsaturated fatty acids makes fluidity.and cholesterol makes average fluidity also but it can prevent more fluidity also acyl chain length decreases fluidity.

As antarctic fish is present in cold environment, it membrane will have to be more fluid thus it will have less acyl Chian length and more unsaturated fatty acids. Cholesterol will be less.

Human being present in middle temperature, thus medium chai length , medium cholesterol and less unsaturated fatty acids.

Thermophilic bacteria cell membrane will be less fluidic thus it will have long acyl Chain, fully saturated fatty acids, less cholesterol BECAUSE in this case cholesterol maintain certain distance between phospholilids that's why if cholesterol is absent then phospholilids can be more compact.

Tropical plants ,will have similar like human.
