How does vasomotor tone differ from vagal tone; how does each one influence MAP?
Vasomotor tone refers to the degree of tension of the smooth muscle within the walls of blood vessels, particularly in the arterial branch. All arterial and venous vessels exhibit some degree of smooth muscle contraction that determines the diameter, and hence tone, of the vessel.
Vagal tone refers to activity of the vagus nerve, which is the 10th cranial nerve, this is involved in parasymptahetic branch of the autonomic nervous system
Effect of vasomotor tone on MAP : It has effect of increasing the MAP, since this is controled by sympathetic nervous system, when stimulated this releases hormone like epinephrine wich increases heart rate and myocardial contractility resulting in increased MAP
Effexct of Vagal tone : It has effect of decreasing MAP, since it is dominated by para symapthetic nervous system, when stimulated this releases hormone like acetylcholin which decreases heart rate and myocardial contractility resulting in decreased MAP
