The eligibility of Medicaid varies over states, particularly for disabled people low-income elderly low-income pregnant women low-income children
Solution
The Medicaid carious over states ,particularly over it's coverage to to disabled people,low-income elderly people,low-income pregnant women and low-income children.
It is because the states were given the freedom to implement their own policy governing the medicaid. The health is made the state subject so,the states were free to decide and implement their own medicaid policy on their own set criteria.
As of January 2019,12 states cover pregnant women with family incomes above 250% FDL (Federal Poverty Level),24 states cover pregnant women with income above 200% FPL. 17 states cover the pregnant women having the incomes 138% up to 200% FPL.
The criteria are mainly different because :
a.The demographics are different for different states
b.The financial capability of different states is different.Highly urbanized states like California have a higher revenue which can be spent on it's citizens unlike Alabama,Oklahoma etc., which have comparatively fewer financial resources that can be spent.
c.The standard of living in different states is different. The standard of living costs in states like Washington ,California are several multiples higher than that of the average standard of living costs of the United States,so there cannot be a standard / same medicaid coverage across all the states.
