Solutions

Expert Solution

1.Oil in gasoline would not experience ion-dipole forces.

explanation: An ion-dipole interaction occur between a fully charged ion and a particularly charged dipole.

for salt water,(NaCl water) the oxygen atom in water molecule has a negetive charge and its attracted to the positively charged sodium ion.so its a ion dipole force.

for baking soda solution,(NaHCO3 and H2O),the oxygen atom in water has negative charge and its attracted to the positively charged sodium ion.

for salt in alcohol,OH group of alcohol has negative charge and its attracted to the positively charged sodium ion ,so ion dipole force.

for gasoline in oil there is no such attraction between charged ion and partially charged dipole.

2.Hydrogen bonding is the strongest intermolecular force.

3.Solid has the strongest intermolecular force.

Attractive intermolecular forces between particles tend to draw the particles together.

4.optionD.all are correct.

Rate of vaporization increases with increasing temp.More the temperature ,more will the number of molecules get vaporied. With increasing temp kinetic energy will increase ,so molecules can overcome the attractive molecular force.

Rate of vaporization increases with decrease in intermolecular force.lesser the intermolecular foce greater will be rate to go to gaseous or vapor state.

Rate of vaporization increases with increasing surface area.A substance that has a larger surface area will vaporized faster as there are more surface molecules that are able to escape.

5.option A. increase heat or reduce pressure to go from liquid to a gas.

6.option A

Forces between molecules and the surface of a tube ae known as adhesive force.
