  1. The NKCC2 transporter is blocked by ____ as a treatment ____

    1. Loop diuretics ; to reduce Na+ reabsorption

    2. ACE inhibitors; to reduce fluid excretion XX

    3. Thiazides; to reduce fluid retention

    4. K sparing diuretics; for hypertension

  2. Which of the following would be a result of treatment with an ACE-I drug?

    1. Decreased production of Renin

    2. Decreased production of angiotensinogen

    3. Decreased fluid volume in the circulatory system,

    4. All of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans1:- a) loop diuretics :- to reduce Na + reabsorption

Loop diuretics block Na K+ 2Cl - transporter in the loop of Henle to prevent reabsorption of Na K and Cl-.

ACE inhibitor reduce formation of aldosterone so less water is reabsorbed from tubular fluid.

Thiazide block Na Cl cotransporter in DCT.

K sparing diuretic is spironolactone

Ans2:- c) decrease fluid vol in circulatory system.

Because ACE I inhibit the formation of angiotensin 2 and aldosterone which are responsible for fluid loading in body .

Discussion: Diuretics Rosemary Fox is a 78-year-old client with a history of heart failure. Her treatment regimen includes hydrochlorothiazide, digoxin, an ACE inhibitor, and a potassium supplement. She is now hospitalized with acute exacerbation of heart failure, including a weight gain of 10 lb over the past week, severe 3+ pitting edema of her ankles and feet, and difficulty breathing with orthopnea. Furosemide 40 mg has been added to her drug regimen. The nurse is preparing to administer the first-ordered...

A company is research a new drug for cancer treatment. The drug is designed to reduce the size of a tumor. You are asked to test its effectiveness. You proceed to take samples from patients that are trying the drug. For each patient you take two measurements of its tumor, before and after the treatment. You want to see if the tumor's size has decreased. Assume the population distribution is normal and α = 0.05. The results of the samples...
