Argue for or against the following statement: Technology companies will invade driver privacy by collecting data from connected cars without the consent of the driver.
TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES WILL INVADE DRIVER PRIVACY BY COLLECTING DATA FROM CONNECTED CARS WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE DRIVER.
I would like to argue in favour of the statement. It is estimated that there will be around 2.5 million connected cars on roads by 2020. No wonder technology is a boon and this will bring about a lot of automation, reduce traffic congestion and bring in best possible experiences. But, connected cars where your data is collected by the 4 wheel machine can also lead to breach of privacy.
These automated cars can be controlled ( including breaks, lights and doors) using its internet web browser. But, there is nothing called as 100% reliable cyber.
Cyber space can be hacked and information can leak. More the car is automated more the number of options for the hackers to invade. One option of breaking the privacy wall doesnt work, try the other. A hacker can overpower the computer software which controls the cars and have a hold on the vechile and private information about the driver.
These automated cars keep track of your driving speed, breaks, music u listen to and places you visit. This information i sent back to the car manufacturer which all sounds so unsafe. It is like someone is always keeping an eye on what you do and all your movements. It is a very risky and unsafe situation.
Just like facebook, where all your data, ur likes, ur friends, ur personal information, what you watch, what u share, your photos, music, books, email, phone number, all are unsafe for they are stored in a backup file somewhere in some other country, similarly, all your movements, your choice of music, your destinations and almost everyhting is at risk. The manufacturers (and the hackers) are all up to know what you do.
So, to conclude i would say, automation can be a boon but it has its drawbacks and safety issues specially related to privacy which can never be under 100% foolproof protection.
