describe the formation and conduction of a neural message (impulses).

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • Neuron are the function unit of nervous system. The way these neuron communicate each other is called impulse. They are generally electrical signals that travel along the axon of neuron.
  • A nerve impulse is generated when stimulus is strong. This stimulus causes electrical and chemical  change in neuron.
  • The exterior side has more sodium ions and more positively charged ions and interior side has more negatively charge ions and potassium, there create a electrochemical gradient due to this electrical difference.
  • When nerve impulse is generated , there is change in the permeability of cell membrane. Sodium ion flow inside and potassium flow outside causing a reversal of charges and this leads to depolarization of cell.
  • This depolarization result in action potential , which causes nerve impulse to travel along the length of axon.
  • A series of reaction occur in which sodium move out and potassium move in causing reversal of charges and cell get polarised.
  • when the impulses reaches at the end of axon , there releases some chemical neurotransmitter , which diffuse across synaptic gap. synaptic gap is the space between axon and receptors.
