Solutions

Expert Solution

a. NaNO3 (aq) + KCl (aq) no reaction

Both NaNO3 and KCl are ionic molecules, and dissociates competely into their corresponding ions in water. So no reaction takes place between them.

b. 2NaCl(aq) + Hg2(C2H3O2)2(aq)   Hg2Cl2 (s) + 2Na(C2H3O2) (aq)

Here both sodium chloride and mercury acetate are soluble in water and after reaction form sodium acetate and mercury chloride. Mercury chloride is a solid, slighly soluble in water and slowly precipitate out from the solution.

c. (NH4)2S(aq)+SrCl2(aq) No reaction

Both ammonium sulfide and strontium chloride are ionic molecules, and dissociates competely into their corresponding ions in water. So no reaction takes place between them.

d. Al2(SO4)3(aq)+ 6AgNO3(aq) 3Ag2SO4(s) + 2Al(NO3)3(aq)

Silver sulfate and aluminium nitrate formed as the products. Aluminium nitrate is soluble in water whereas silver sulfate is sparigly soluble in water and slowly precipitate out from water.
