Answer 1)
A) Crystallization: It is the process of formation of crystals of a compound which is not soluble in given solvent under given temperature condition.
Crystallization is very easy and useful process of separation & purification of chemicals.
Many organic reactions are reversible, of low % yield and many times leads to the formation of different isomeric products.
The required product can be separated from solvents, substrate, reagents & even from isomers formed in reaction on the basis of their solubility/insolubility in given solvent under given temperature condition.
Crystallization many times termed as Recrystallization (as solid product dissolves and then reappears from solvent) and Recrystallization is the well-known technique for isolation and purification.
Procedure:
i) Such a solvent is chosen for recrystallization in which compound to be purified is insoluble at low temperature but will be insoluble in the hot condition. And at hot conditions impurities must be soluble.
i) The sample is added to the suitable solvent and heated to some elevated temperature. At hot conditions, compound gets dissolved & not the impurities. At this condition only it is filtred to remove impurity.
ii) Then filtrate allowed to cool down from which compound crystalize out.
