Can a damaged or torn anal sphincter cause weaker ejaculations in men? Explain using visuals.
Yes! Injured anal spinchter cause weaker ejaculation in men. Semen ejaculation in men consist of two phases: emission and ejection. The Pelvic floor muscles plays vital role in expressing the genital fluid into the posterior urethra with the help of the intrinsic musculature of the internal reproductive organs. Especially the EUS acts as a “suction-ejection pump” which aids in evacuation of the seminal vesicles and vasal ampullae of their secretions by creating the negative pressure in the posterior urethra and ejaculatory duct. The injured anal sphincter probably reduce the activity of the bulbocavernosus muscle. The contraction of the bulbocavernosus muscle is critical to raise the cavernosal pressure above systolic blood pressure for the successful ejaculation. Therefore, damaged or torn anal sphincter could lead to the loss of rhythmical contractions of the bulbocavernosus muscle that in turn cause failure of ejaculation or erectile dyfunction. Contraction of EAS and the squeezing of the glans pen!s is necessary to create the bulbocavernosus reflex that is critical for ejaculation.
