The technology has changed lierally from a huge camera to a pocket camera. the start of the camera with a pinhole camera which was in 1500's to today's DSLR and some other high technology camera's. The company SHARP introduced a camera inbuilt in the phone in the year 2000. KONICA C35 AF was the first autofocus camera intorduced in 1977. Autofocus generally detects the distance of the object and then focus on the subject which we need to capture, there are lots of methods to determine the distance of the object, Like ultrasonic sound waves to infrared light waves. Phase detection can be achieved by dividing the light into pair of images and comparing them. COntrast detection is achieved by a sensor field through the lens. The intensity differences of the color is detected and then the autofocus can be achieved. In a kind of Hybrid autofocus system it uses the Phase detection, Contrast detectiion and Active and Passive methods,

Some of the phone like LG (G3 & G4), One plus 2 and someother take infocus quickly even in low light too, However the technology too use the Active and PAssive methods adn then Phase detection to autofocus the shot,

Cameras now have super portability, high auto focus, potrait mode, lots of other features where a common man can also shoot a camera with a very High Definition Mode and can share it to the world in seconds.

Iphone 6, Sa,sung Galacy S5 and phone version there after uses this autofocus feature and but a now a days a midrange phone can easily do with the autofocus and give out a photo like a DSLR( Digital Single Lens Reflex).
