2. What process should be implemented immediately after an injury? Why are these initial steps important to the healing process?

  • As soon as possible after injury such as sprain , you can relieve pain ,swelling and promote healing and flexibilty, with Rest, Ice, compression, elevation.

Rest

  • Rest and protect the injured or sore area.
  • Stop, change or take a break from any activity that may causing your pain or soreness.
  • This cause relaxation and  blood pressure to normal.

Ice

  • cold will reduce pain and swelling .
  • Apply ice or cold pack for 10-20 minutes , 3 or more times a day.
  • If swelling is gone , heat to the area hurts.
  • place a towel over the cold or heat pack before applying it to the skin.

Compression

  • Compression or Wrapping the injured or sore area with an elastic bandage , will help decrease swelling
  • Don't wrap too tightly, because it can cause more swelling the affected area.
  • loosens the bandage if there is numbness , tingling or increased pain.

Elevation

  • Elevate injured area or sore area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down.
  • Try to keep above heart to minimize swelling.
  • If leg is kept down more chance of swelling.
  • Also , can use non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
