Part 1 - Here is how the mentor helped me in my professional & personal success - ​

  • ​The mentorship helped me to understand the value of putting consistent efforts in the work & expect results with patience & perseverance.
  • ​It is important to progress and work harder to meet the objectives and achieve the goals. Success doesn't come easy and if genuine intent and effort are there it increases the chances of achieving the same goal.
  • I learnt to carefully do situation assessment and understand the viewpoints of others. With empathy, a person can predict and understand various group dynamics lead to better team management and acceptability from everyone. It helps to make informed decisions to achieve the objectives.
  • With constant mentorship it helped me develop a great ability to forecast and look into the future. The external trends understanding helps to make thoughtful decisions. It also helps to create an environment of aspiration and commitment in the individual thereby supporting to achieve the desired goals.

H​ere is the advice and guidance my mentor provided -

  • Mentor asked me to have an open-minded approach.
  • It is important to be not critical of others. I must understand and analyse the opinion of others and should be willing to modify my decision on the basis of that. The person who is not open to new ideas and follows strict procedures will not be effective in leading organisations or bringing adjustments to strategies.
  • Another great advice was to develop social skills.
  • Social skills in a person help to gain more perspectives and learning from each other and help to get to know the informal attributes of other team members in the same organisation.

​The core advice was to ​demonstrate leadership and work towards the vision​ in both personal and professional business aspect​: I would need to demonstrate a high level of emotional stability, learning skills and consistency in my behaviour to achieve the objectives.

Yes, I did find ways to apply what I learned from the mentor in future situations - ​

  • ​In future also I was involved in ​constant review of strength and weaknesses - It is important to understand personal strength areas and the improvement points. It helps to be in a constant state of improvement and become effective. It helps to understand various outcomes expected and then take the most rational decision.
  • ​For all the task in future, I followed the rule of ​ruthless prioritisation: To be able to mitigate risk and have the best possible outcomes I will plan my priorities in a ruthless manner. It is important to understand the top five tasks which are important for personal results. I will focus on what risk can get maximum results.
  • Making schedules and deadlines helps in timely execution of various tasks and responsibilities - In future, I will keep doing​ task assessment and understand the returns expected from each alternative outcome. The one I feel is giving the most and having a high degree of passion will be the one I will adopt.
