During EHR implementation, how do you get everyone on-board?
Implementing of Electronic Health Record (EHR) is a multi-step process that will affect all staff members as well as patients .As we are implementing a new process we should ensure that a learning curve is involved. Preparing a solid plan can save hours of stress for everyone on the team.
For successful participation of every one in implementation of EHR following steps can be done
1) For the smooth working of EHR we need a strong team .The team consists of staff members such as physicians, nurses, medical assistants and administrative staff.
2) Team members can assist the process of implemention and help others by teaching colleagues EHR skills and serving as messengers to the implementation team to identify challenges on their way.
3) Lead superuser ie, lead physician, and project manager can maintain the work flow by creating standard operating procedures.
4) The lead physician main role is to guide everyone in the organization to go through EHR Implementation by teaching about the link between front line system users and the technical staff.
5) Create a proper training plan so that everyone ie, physicians and staffs can gain the knowledge and skills to use the EHR successfully .
6) Provide physicians and staff with basic skills before launching.
7) Patient room layout will impact how the patient will feel when entering for consulting. If the clinical staff are not in face-to-face with the patient while doing the data entry the patient feel like being ignored or blocked out. So the layout of the room should be maintained for successful EHR implementation.
