As a Senior officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, I'm here to develop a plan that leads to the efficient utilisation of fruits in Guyana.

At the most, recent studies estimated that about 30% of all fruits and vegetables produced in the country or not consumed and hence wasted. Figures for Guyana shows 34% waste of tomatoes and also other fruits and vegetables in the same proportion.So the methods or plan to be taken to stop the wastage of fruits are as follows;

1. In relation to production and harvest, crop forecasting should be planned which should be advanced. It sounds quite simple. yield forecast determine the expected yield at your planned harvest date. By use of empirical-statistical models using correlation and regression techniques crops yield are forecasted on an operational basis for country.this helps in exceptional wastage of food yielded..

2. Processing and packaging manufacturing infrastructure, should provide adequate equipments for processing and storage of fruits so as to avoid post harvest losses.

3. The use of of appropriate chemicals at the time of pre and post harvest stage may extend the availability of fruits and vegetables over a long period with out any spoilage.

4.Estimation of wasted fruits can be decreased by promoting it from its natural form into pulp, juice, fruit pieces which can be distributed later...

5. Methods such as pickling, drying, canning, freezing, fermenting and curing can be used to make the fruit product last longer...

6. Shelf-life of fruits and vegetables can be extended to facilitate the need of consumers.

7. Diversificated market should be implemented even in small areas.

8. The fruits can be transported to other country so as to overcome hunger and poverty.
