Modifier TC
Modifier TC identifies the technical
component. It is used when only the technical component of a
procedure is being billed when certain services combine both the
professional and technical portions in one procedure code. That is
used when billing both the professional and technical component of
a procedure when the technical component was purchased from an
outside entity.Use it when the physician performs the test but does
not do the interpretation. In short it is to bill for only the
technical component portion of a procedures falling into the
following types of service; Medical care/Injections ,Surgery,
Radiology,Lab, Radiation Therapy and Assistant Surgeon. For
example the provider is appropriately billing for just
the technical portion of a screening mammogram performed on the
left side.Under certain circumstances, a charge may be made for the
technical component alone. Under those circumstances the technical
component charge is identified by adding modifier TC to the usual
procedure number.Technical component charges are institutional
charges and not billed separately by physicians.
