Skills that would be essential for the project managers to have in order to ensure delivery of the projects on time, within cost and within desired quality are following:

  1. Leadership skills: Project manager should be able to lead his/her team. Project manager should be able to communicate effectively and clearly, build trust among the team and should be decisive.
  2. Problem solving skills: Project manager should be a problem solver. He/she should be pro active and prevent the problem from occurring by resolving issues at early stages before they will transform into problem for the project. Project manager should use constructive ways to resolve the problems.
  3. Scheduling/ time managing skills: Project manager should be good at scheduling project activities and must be good at managing time. These skills will help to complete activities timely and make optimum use of idle time in between various activities.
  4. Cost managing skills: Project manager should be good at managing costs of project. This will require good negotiation skills. Project manager needs to make optimum use of allocated budget for the project.
  5. Quality managing skills: Project manager also needs to focus on quality of the project. He/she needs to ensure that project quality is not compromised for costs and time constraints. Project manager needs to be good at quality measuring and evaluation tools in order to ensure project is meeting quality standards.
